While this was a 'clean' contemporary novel one has to suspend belief throughout. Just the idea of a mean cantankerous woman undergoing a personality change with seemingly nothing taking place is truly unbelievable. Then without giving anything away, I found it amazing that a sheriff and a judge would look the other way after a flagrant crime was knowingly committed. Yah right! There's more that causes one to shake their head in amazement. People without income can afford meals out and cell phones for their children.The author portrays every non-Christian as mean and angry while the Christians are loving and sweet. Not in my world.
This was one of those books when you are hoping it's almost done but then realize you're not even halfway through yet. Groan!

Very sweet stories woven together, but it was like a fairy tale. God only promises to give us courage and strength to work through life's struggles. The best story was the dear retired pastor and his wife with Christian hearts and faith.
Harry and his wife life a god-filled life. Trying to do good in the world, Harry leaves some lottery tickets as tips for a hairdresser and a waitress. The book weaves in the stories of Darcy, the fired waitress, Shelley, the fired hairdresser, and Harry, as they cross paths several times. The lottery tickets changes lives, but not in the monetary sense. Although the story includes heartache and hardships, the ending makes it a good read.
This was the first book I have read by Evelyn Mays. Needless to say, I was impressed. When I finished the book, I was left wanting to know more about the characters and what has happened to them since the book was published. That's how "real" the characters in this book were to me. Most of us don't think about the what-ifs of life, we just trudge along not giving a second thought to why this happened when it did, etc. I disagree with a couple of the other reviews that it was "too religious". Truly, one of the most enjoyable books I have read.
I don't mind reading a book where the characters discuss their faith, question their faith, or share their faith with others. This book shoves faith down the reader's throat on every single page. What should I make for supper? I'd better pray on it! Does the Lord want me to get a hair cut today? Let's pray and find out. And the coffee drinking never ends. We need to have a late night chat. Let make make the coffee! I'm feeling blue. I'll have some coffee. I have to drive down the block. Better bring a thermos of coffee! And the conversations are stilted and fake. When the characters talk, each one speaks a paragraph at a time. The author wrote monologues, not dialogue. I'm open to reading a wide variety of fiction and I'm willing to read a lot of amateur writing, but this book pained me. I did finish it because I almost always finish a book if I can get through the first chapter, but it was more a chore than a pleasure.
The truth is that money will only make you a bigger whatever t h at you already are. If you're selfish then wealth can make you more self I should. Money in a o person's hands whose heart is big and thinks of others can make a huge, positive difference in the world around them.
I couldn't put this book down except to sleep before a long day of travel. Super Great read with a few unexpected twists and turns.
What a wonderful read this book was. Each character could be your next door neighbor. The author timed the telling of each character's story impeccably! You even start to sympathize for the "villain", Daisy; in the end, you will praise the Lord at how merciful and good He is at working out the details and bringing peace. And the lottery tickets?...well, you will just have to read it for yourself
I thought this was an enjoyable book and it was better than I expected. I like books that jump between each characters POV and I also liked how everybody's lives kept intertwining. The characters were likable and although the bigger parts of the story were very predictable, there were a few smaller parts I did not expect.
This is by no means a literary masterpiece or the book of the year. If you want a book with tons of character development and an unpredictable story, this probably won't appeal to you. If you want a quick read to enjoy or to pass the time you may enjoy this book- especially if you like faith based books. I like how the different characters were all in different places with their walk with God. From the always prayerful older couple to the single mom who thought God had forgotten her.
